During these first ten days of Muharram we make a special effort to remember the supreme sacrifice made by Imam Hussain (a) and his family and companions in the valley of Karbala. We also remember the orphans he left behind and the suffering they endured after the battle. We should take this opportunity to think about how similar their plight was to that of the orphans who are suffering in Iraq today. Just like the orphans of Karbala, the orphans of Iraq go through untold hardship because of the cruelty of others, often losing their parents to the violence of bloodthirsty warmongers. We support the orphans of Karbala every year by keeping their memory alive, but we can also support the orphans of Iraq by donating and easing their sufferings.
If you would like to do something to help the orphans during this sanctified month, you can purchase a copy of Understanding Karbala from us for only £5. The book is aimed at children and tells the story of Imam Hussain in Karbala, alongside beautiful illustrations. All the proceeds go straight towards helping the orphans of Iraq.
